This initiative was launched on 15 October 2022 on the occasion of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s birth anniversary. After COVID, we observed that children in Sevavastis were becoming increasingly addicted to mobile phones, reducing their physical activity and affecting their concentration. Balnandan Vachanalay and Khelghar was established to take children away from screens and bring them back to the world of imagination, physical play, and knowledge.
We do not wait for children to come to us; we take the library and play centre directly to their communities. Currently, our coordinators and teachers conduct weekly sessions in 15 Sevavastis with the following resources:
This is not just an initiative to provide materials; it is a program to interact meaningfully with children. Our teachers sit with children and conduct the following activities:
Encouraging children to complete books by setting weekly reading goals.
Teaching strategy, teamwork, and problem-solving skills through games.
Organizing storytelling, book review, and indoor game competitions to keep children enthusiastic and engaged.
The highlight of the year is the Balkumar Sahitya Sammelan. It is a grand celebration of the Marathi language and creative arts:
Hundreds of children benefit every year.
Currently enrolled across 15 centers.
Children are choosing books and games over mobile screens.
